I suppose my yearning for a post-apocalyptic adventure comes out of a romantic notion of a violent spaghetti west. In his book, Patton Oswalt says that you can divide the teenage experience into three categories: Zombies (simplifying the world), Spaceships (leaving the world), and Wastelands (destroying the world). Patton: “Weirdly, Wastelands are the most hopeful and sentimental of the bunch … they conceive of stories in which a core of humanity — in actual numbers or the conscience of a lone hero — survives and endures. Wastelands, in college, love Beckett.”
